 | | Kindergarten Team | The kindergartens at Battle Creek provide many opportunities to
learn, with an emphasis on the environment that strengthens and expands
basic skills.
Academically, children work on letters, sounds and
math concepts through various hands on learning activities. All
children have a “book baggie” that allows them to take home a new book
every night. An animal of the month is studied in depth each month
using stories, fact books, art projects and artifacts.
Battle Creek has
implemented a new handwriting curriculum, “Handwriting Without Tears”,
that begins in kindergarten and is continued throughout the grades.
Children rotate through “specialist” classes throughout the year. The
visit physical education, music and science.
The Kindergarten students
pair up with students in fifth grade.
Some of the activities these
“buddies” have shared are: creating art projects, reading stories and
outdoor experiences.
Weekly homework serves two purposes: to
encourage responsibility in students and to directly involve parents in
their child’s academic skill development.
Our gifted students are able
to participate in a SEM (Schoolwide Enrichment Model) program that
gives them additional challenges.
Students that are learning English
also receive support services.
Battle Creek provides exciting learning experiences for all!
