10/29/2009 5:30 PMSite Council Minutes October 29, 2009 Members Present: Eleanor Clemmons (principal), Lori Erickson (co-chair), Lisa Melby (co-chair), Ying Yang (parent), Leslie Trone (parent), Harry Challenger (parent) I. Principal’s Report Curriculum Update • Ms. Clemmons introduced the St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS) new reading curriculum. The curriculum’s name is Mondo. • The SPPS expects all schools to implement Mondo with fidelity. • The SPPS is also using Mondo, PALS, and the Everyday Math Secure Skills to assess student’s academic level. • The four early release days will be used for environmentally focused instruction. Each classroom will be completing lessons around their grade level environmental expert topic. Professional Development for Staff • The Battle Creek teachers will be given four days throughout the school year to evaluate student’s progress. Teachers will use data from Mondo, PALS, and Everyday Math to plan for instruction. SCIP Plan • Ms. Clemmons detailed Battle Creek’s AYP status. Members discussed the MCA test score data. • Ms. Clemmons asked for input on data revisions for the SCIP plan. Members suggested adding MCA data for three years. In addition, members suggested adding SPPS district data in order to compare scores. II. Parent Involvement Plan for 2009-10 School Year • Members discussed ways to increase parent involvement. Suggestions included: using E-Connect to contact families (in multiple languages) about upcoming school events and creating a “Tips for Parents” informational packet. • December’s meeting will focus on the “Tips” packet.
