BCE Parent Group Minutes, February 11, 2008

1)      Bank Account – we will have our separate account for tax and other reasons. We have to spend down the $ in the school account before we use money in our new account. Any money we get from now on we will put in the new account. We will also purchase a CD with current money over the summer, and when we withdraw it, that money will go to the new PG account.

2)      We will stay with Kathryn Beich for one more year for our major fundraiser, and in the meantime do some searching for a long-term better solution.

3)      Funds Request Form: From Lisa Arcand’s (kindergarten teacher) son. Parent or teacher can request funds from the parent group for a project. There are several questions, including a description of the project and its benefits to the school. The project would have to stay at the school, the principal also sees the form/application and approves. Patty will make up a form with the BCE information and then the Parent Group can discuss.

4)      PTO Allocation: Next year we want to have checks disbursed right away in the fall. Some still may not have their checks now in February.

5)      Already have received positive feedback on the BCE Parent Newsletter! Way to go, Traci!

6)      School Information Fair went really well. It was very busy. Nice and a variety of people came to the BCE display. The volunteers gave out folders with the new newsletter and the new school pamphlet. Gave out maybe forty folders, and several people signed up for tours.  A lot of people were looking for pre-K. They were all invited to Literacy night. Traci will send prospective families the parent newsletter also.

7)      For Literacy Night we had pink and green tshirts, and gray sweatshirts! Yippee.

8)      May 30^th is the tentative date for the BCE Family Picnic. Bev will confirm. The Rec Center closes at 6:00 pm, so we will have the back door to the school open for kitchen, food, and bathrooms. Principal will get permit for that and someone to work in the kitchen. Look for notice asking for volunteers.

9)      Spring Fundraiser. The principal will pick the date for the Walk Around the Pond. The kids will raise money. Patty will make up the form for that.

10)  Look for notice asking for volunteers for Earth Night, May 1^st. The Parent Group will supply the food. There are always a couple of people from the PG on the earth night committee. Sheng and Patty volunteered. Suggestion to serve cans of pop – then we can recycle the cans. We will also sell pizza. More information to come. Sign up sheet will be available at conferences, maybe at Literacy Night.

11)  Need to get dates for the next Culver’s.

12)  Room Mothers? Room Parents? Something to consider for next year. “Key volunteers” – had started that here already at some point, but not anymore. Deborah will write something up to solicit volunteers for end of year. She and others remembered having them when they were youngsters at school! ;)

13)  Next PG meeting – Monday, March 10^th.
