| Focus on Student Achievement | | At Battle Creek Elementary there is a focus on core subjects: reading, writing, math, and science.
As part of a grant, we are developing a comprehensive, standards based environmental curriculum that brings an environmental focus to use as a tool in everyday lessons across all subject areas.
We involve students in field research projects that teach them research skills and higher order thinking skills. Students participate in data collection, data analysis and interpretation, and presentation.
There is a focus on computer skills. Basic computer skills are introduced. Some examples are word processing, graphics, database, spreadsheet, exploring web activities, programming and multimedia applications. There is an integration of technology into the curriculum whenever possible.
Our focus is to provide more adult support, individual instruction and smaller instructional groups in the classroom and in field experiences.
